Week 7: One year, still no new gear!

So far, so good. With the sun coming out over the past week I'm getting a little agitated about going shopping for summer stuff! Hey I'm sure I can find something in my wardrobe....that still fits me!

Monday was yard duty day. Comfy footwear is essential!

Split decision

Thank God its Friday! I have to keep reminding myself.

Week 6: Emergency purchase!

When I started out on this "One year, no new gear", I did allow myself one purchase per month. This month it had to be a pair of comfortable shoes!

I used to be the queen of quirky, impossibly high shoes that I could wear all day...but no more. I blame Covid,,,,,not getting older!

So I bought these to get me through the school day when I am on yard duty.

They are pure bliss on my feet.

Of course I had no sooner exited the shoe shop with my purchase in my hands, heart pounding with the exhilaration of having bought something when I bumped straight into Gillian. She espied the Shoe Shop bag in my hand and asked the dreaded question

"I thought you weren't supposed to be buying anything for a year?"

I could feel the blood draining from my face as if I had been found in possession of class A drugs! I gulped and considered saying that they were a birthday present for my niece but then I realised that I didn't have to lie. it was all above board.   I'd never make it as a con artist.

So still on track.

Week 5: One year, no new gear

Wow! This couldn't have happened at a better time.

A new business has opened up in our little village, Alterations. This means that I can add new life to clothes that I thought were for landfill. I'd like to day that I have clothes that have to be taken in

BUT I DON'T! Quite the opposite.

Best of luck to Tatiana on your new venture. I'll pop in soon.

No withdrawal symptoms this week. Shopping never entered my head.

I think I was going for Granddad chic!!!

Going dotty.

Orange you glad to see me!

Red-y to go

Off to the races - the first time in three years!!!

I  lost on every race. So nothing new there.

Week 4: One Year, No New Gear

Time is flying. Only 48 weeks until I can go clothes shopping again!

I must admit I'm finding it easier to abstain when I haven't as much free time to miss going to a shopping centre. I've also gone through my wardrobe(s)

not literally, I don't live in Narnia!

and I've rediscovered lots of old favourites that I have forgotten about. I've also discovered some items that "I have to have" , that are now languishing in the aforementioned wardrobe, with the tags still on!!! Not so necessary after all.

Anyway here is my week

Monday was a Bank Holiday. Off to the cinema to see Downton Abbey.

Tuesday: Back to school.

Wednesday: School Tour Day to The Crystal Maze. Great day was had by all!

Thursday: Met Mullingar women for tea after school.

Friday Feeling!

Saturday: Met Emer for dinner and then we headed off to Mullingar Arts Centre to see Emmet Cahill in concert. Great night.

These were the clothes that I bought ages ago....and had to take the tags off. :)

Week 3: One year, no new gear

This week was Back to School week, after the Easter hols. It brought its challenges. For some reason it was a very "theatrical" week, which meant that I wasn't going home after school but rather meeting up with people before heading to the show. Coupled with the fact that I was on "yard duty" three days this week didn't help. Yard Duty outfits have to be comfortable, flat shoes suitable for walking around and around and around the yard in all possible weathers.

Think "One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest"...and what they wore!

Monday: First day back at school.

Tuesday: Off to Maynooth University to see their production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Spoiler Alert: He dies in the end!

Wed: Time for LMVGs production of The Addams Family. It was fab-u-lous. I LOVED the costumes. If I borrowed them, I wouldn't be buying new gear?

Thursday: Another yard duty day...

Fri: Headed to Bord Gais to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. It was a brilliant production. Every teacher should be made go to see it, It is performed from the viewpoint of a boy with autism. Very Powerful.

Sat: I spent it in my pjs and walking gear. I wouldn't inflict that on you!

Sun: Heading into the Mullingar Bachelor Festival open air concert! Soft day, thank God!
